A transition from a linear to a circular material flow is crucial for addressing the global challenges within sustainability. This is what Orkla Wound Care have in focus when setting our plans for sustainability until 2024.
Cederroth First Aid is a part of Orkla Wound Care, and we have a leading position in many markets both in the First Aid segment and in consumer wound care. As a category captain our customers and consumers expect us to work on lowering the environmental impact of our products and the entire value chain.
We will integrate sustainability into our existing products and do a continous sustainability upgrade, rather than developing a separate sustainable product range. Materials must be exchanged for more environmentally friendly options, the greenhouse gas emissions during production and transport must be reduced and the recycling of used products must be facilitated.
The Orkla Wound Care Sustainability plan is built on Orkla’s Sustainability strategy which is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We at Cederroth are working hard to continue to improve our products, maintain the high quality we are known for and always strive to lower our impact on the climate and bring you more sustainable products. Part of our sustainability work has been to develop more climate-smart products and packaging. In January 2022, we launched our updated stations and dispensers where the green colored plastic has been changed to more than 85% recycled plastic with origin from refrigerators and similar electronic equipment. 100 tonnes plastic per year is exchanged, which equals the weight of about 100 cars!
In a next step we will also exchange the plastic in the transparent station lids to more sustainable material.
Using recycled plastic has many advantages. Recycled plastic takes 90% less CO2 emissions to produce than virgin plastic. By using recycled plastic in production, we will decrease the CO2eq emission by 300 tonnes each year, compared to the use of virgin plastic. 300 tonnes CO2eq corresponds to e.g. 300 round-trips flights Stockholm – Geneva, or 120 fewer cars in the traffic during a year.
We continuously work with reducing the amount of packaging material, for example by making plaster boxes smaller. We use recycled materials in paper boxes and well cartons. The total amount of Cederroth First Aid packaging material is made of more than 50% recycled materials.
