Bone is living tissue and is continuously renewed. A disruption in the balance between breaking down old bone and building up new bone results in osteoporosis (bone loss). Today, half a million women in Sweden suffer from osteoporosis.
Bone loss starts to take place after the age of 30 years and it is therefore important to prevent osteoporosis in time. Every year 70,000 people in Sweden suffer from bone fractures caused by osteoporosis.
“A deficiency in vitamin K is not the primary cause of osteoporosis. However, many studies show that there is a connection between vitamin K levels in the blood and low bone density, which is why supplementing the diet with vitamin K is believed to be valuable for the skeleton,” said Ulf Lerner at the Norrlands University Hospital in Umeå.
Fewer bone fractures with K2+
To date, osteoporosis has been treated with calcium and vitamin D supplements. Now several studies show that this is probably not enough. Studies indicate that vitamin K2 plays a unique role in bone building, making it just as important as calcium. The new self care product Pharbio K2+ improves the intake and enhances the binding of calcium to the skeleton, thereby enhancing protection against fractures by 80 percent according to several studies.
A new study shows that knowledge of osteoporosis and the fact that you can strengthen the skeleton through self care is widespread among women. A balanced diet, exercise and vitamin K2 together lay the groundwork for healthy bones. Dairy products are a natural source of vitamin K2, however our daily intake of the vitamin through the food that we eat is often not enough.
Pharbio K2+ contains MenaQ7, a natural vitamin K2 extract. This is extracted from natto, fermented soya beans, a national dish of Japan. Prevalence of osteoporosis in Japan is low, with vitamin K2 being prescribed as medical treatment for the disease.
